My mother' by David Hockney

This edition's photographer is

David Hockney

Have you seen the advert on TV where there are lots of photos all laid out and the car starts to move from one photo to another? If not, click here for the advert.

After seeing this clever ad, I thought I would introduce you to a photographer who did a similar thing as an art form 30 years ago.

'Photo montage' by David Hockney

David Hockney was born in England in 1937. He became a very renowned ‘Pop’artist, initially for his paintings such as a bigger splash

He had exhibitions of his paintings all over the world and his work can be seen now in galleries, on posters and in books everywhere.
However, in the 1980s he became interested in photography and started using a Polaroid camera.

The photo emerged from the camera as soon as the image has been taken. It was lots of fun because it used instant film and you could see the image appearing before your eyes in a few minutes.

Polariod cameras are still available to buy today

However, I am not suggesting that you go out and buy one of these. You can just as easily take photos on your digital camera.
What I am suggesting is that you look at the style of photography that David Hockney is renowned for (The photomontage) and see if you like them.
Here are some examples

Also here are some fantastic examples of photomontages that other people have created in the style of Hockney today

I think they could be great fun for you to try yourself…..

* Just snap away with your digital camera ..... then pop down to Boots or Jessops and get the images printed out cheaply on the digital machines.

*Lay them on a board on the floor.

* When you are happy with the layout, glue them or blue tac them in place. (Overlap and cut them if you wish).

*Now take a photo of your montage….

Why don't you send us an email of your finished masterpiece.

......and why not frame your original...after all it is now a piece of art!

We would love to see your image and may even do a feature on them in a future edition. Send to:
